Why green design?
Buildings consume more than 30% of our total energy and 60% of our electricity. Construction activities contribute to 40% of solid waste. Pollution is created in association with the construction and operation of buildings. For example 35% of our country's carbon dioxide emissions is related to construction and buildings. Decisions made during construction impact the environment for the life of that building and beyond. It's time to be more thoughtful in our building choices and practices.
What is green design?
Green design addresses 5 main categories: Site, material and water conservation, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality.
How does green design impact residential contruction?
Everyone knows how important it is to recycle, and conserve energy, but when it comes to making the 1,000 or more decisions in the construction of a home, it can be unclear what the options are for green design, and how each decision affects the budget and design of the project. There are trade-offs to every decision. Evergreen Design Studio can help make sense of the choices, from roofing and windows to flooring and paint.
